Ahead of one of McMaster University’s biggest party weekends, the City of Hamilton has been granted an injunction order from the Superior Court.
Effective immediately, students participating in homecoming events are subject to charges if they attend what is deemed a “nuisance party” within the university district.
This applies to events that the city views as “unsafe” or “disruptive.”
A similar order was granted in Hamilton earlier this year, around the time of St. Patrick’s Day.
City officials say police will be helping enforce the guidelines, in an effort to maintain the health and safety of residents in the community.
“We know homecoming is an enjoyable time for students – past and present – and many community members, but it’s important that participants are responsible hosts, respectful guests, and good neighbours this weekend,” officials said in a statement.
