Series of Overnight Residential Entries

Hamilton Police are currently investigating a series of residential break-ins reported in the Stoney Creek neighborhood.

On Thursday, June 27, 2024, between midnight and 6:00 a.m., Hamilton Police received multiple residential break-in reports in the Mathers Drive area of Stoney Creek.

The investigation revealed that in all incidents, entry was gained through either an unlocked door or an unsecured window.

In each case, the residents were at home and asleep during the break-ins.

Hamilton Police want to take this opportunity to provide some general safety tips;

  • Lock All Doors and Windows: Ensure all doors and windows are locked, even when you are at home.
  • Install Deadbolts: Use deadbolt locks on all exterior doors for added security.
  • Use a Peephole or Doorbell Camera: Always check who is at your door before opening it.
  • Do Not Open for Strangers: Never open the door to strangers or unexpected visitors.
  • Keep Your Home Well-Lit: Use outdoor lighting to illuminate entry points and deter intruders.
  • Maintain Your Yard: Trim bushes and trees that could provide cover for burglars.
  • Secure Sliding Doors: Use a rod or bar in the track to prevent sliding doors from being forced open.
  • Use Alarm Systems: Install a home security system and use it consistently.
  • Install Security Cameras: Place cameras at entry points to monitor activity around your home.
  • Do Not Share Travel Plans: Avoid posting travel plans or status updates on social media that indicate your home is vacant.
