Possum survives crossbow attack in Hamilton

Another animal has been attacked with an arrow in Hamilton, and police say they do not believe the 3 separate incidents are connected.

This time it was a possum that was shot on east Hamilton Mountain, not long after a cat and a squirrel were attacked with a crossbow in the north end.

The baby possum is now in the animal hospital after it was found on a front porch on the east mountain.

Kristine Osenenko says she managed to find the possum, “Possum was eating the cat foot on Tuesday evening. My son noticed it had an arrow through it”. She took it to Millen Road Animal Hospital.

The rescue team says the arrow was about 7 inches long with a black tip at the end of it.

Cara Contardi from Millen Road Animal Hospital says, “…none of the vitals were hit. There was some infection from her walking around with it for a couple of days, but we gave her some really good medication, we flushed it all, and she’s doing great so far.”

The rescue team brought the arrow to the police.

Osenenko says she has three cats and is now terrified if anything happens to them. She says, “They do like to come outside for a couple hours every day and it’s concerning that somebody would actually harm an animal for no reason.”

Police are still investigating and are asking anyone with information to call them.
