Police Release Video of Central Hamilton Shooting

The Hamilton Police Service Shooting Response Team (SRT) continues to investigate the shooting, which occurred on Monday, May 6, 2024 in the area of King Street East and East Avenue North.

As a result of the shooting, a bystander was grazed by one of the stray bullets. The victim, an adult male in his 50’s was transported to hospital for non-life threatening injuries and has since been released from hospital.

Investigators believe that the shooting occurred between two individuals. Evidence gathered to date suggests these individuals are both believed to have been armed. One of the suspects was observed operating a grey BMW sedan. Police have since recovered this vehicle.

At this time, investigators are seeking to identify two suspects:

Suspect #1 – The driver of the BMW described as:

  • Male, white, wearing a black hooded-sweater, black pants and white running shoes. Holding a black firearm.

Suspect #2 – Discharged his firearm at Suspect #1

  • Male, white, wearing white shorts and a white hooded-sweater.

It is unclear to investigators what, if any relationship exists between the two suspects.  The motive for this shooting remains central to the investigation and has yet to be identified. Investigators are asking for the public’s assistance in identifying Suspect #1 and have released a video clip depicting Suspect #1. 

There is no evidence at this time to confirm if Suspect #1 discharged his firearm at Suspect #2.

Investigators are also continuing their attempt to identify witnesses that were in the immediate area at the time of the shooting.  These witnesses have yet to come forward to investigators.

Hamilton Police are asking residents in the area to review their security surveillance cameras between the hours of 10:45 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. for any suspicious activity and to contact police. Detectives are also asking if you were driving in the area and have dash camera footage that would be suitable for review to please contact the investigators.
