Hamilton police warn of fentanyl-laced gummies after recent search

Police have issued a warning of dangerous edible drugs after fentanyl-laced gummies were found during a recent search.

The department released a statement Friday warning of dangerous substances possibly being disguised as candy and posing a serious risk to public safety.

The media release does not say where the drugs were seized, how much was found or if any charges were laid.

Officers warn that the disguised drugs are extremely dangerous to children and teenagers who may mistake them as real candy.

Hamilton emergency crews responded to 964 suspected opioid overdoses in 2023 – the highest annual total recorded – with 520 incidents reported for this year.

Police are warning people to look out for any signs of fentanyl exposure including dizziness, difficulty breathing and a slow or weak pulse.

Anyone who notices someone suffering from these symptoms are told to call 911 immediately and to use Naloxone if available.

Any residents with information is asked to contact police.
