Hamilton police make homicide arrest, charge well-known criminal

Hamilton police have made an arrest in the murder of a 37-year-old man last month, and the suspect is someone well-known to officers.

On June 15, police dispatched to 100 Connaught Ave. South following reports of a deceased man.

Once on scene, officials commenced an investigation into the incident. It was later ruled a homicide.

Shortly after, police revealed the identity of the victim to be Randy Peardon.

Peardon lived in the area of Connaught Avenue, but not at the exact address where his body was discovered.

In an update Friday, police say Alexander La was charged with second-degree murder in connection with the homicide. La and Peardon are not believed to be known to each other.

Hamilton police said in a statement that while they have a “clear understanding of the circumstances surrounding the death, they continue to investigate the events that followed.”

Anyone with information on that homicide investigation is asked to contact Det. Matt Drumm at 905-546-3825.

La remains in custody on other charges, and has been tied to other violent incidents in the Hamilton area.

He was arrested last month in Niagara Falls in connection with a daytime shootout in an east Hamilton neighbourhood on May 13.

An arrest warrant was also issued for La after he allegedly tried to break into an apartment in downtown Hamilton on May 30.

During that incident, police say he had been trying to break into the apartment located at 175 Hunter St. West when he physically assaulted a 40-year-old woman with a firearm and then proceeded to rob a 70-year-old woman of her cellphone before fleeing.
