Hamilton police are investigating an overnight shooting in the city’s east end.
Shortly after 10 p.m. Sunday, several phone calls were made to police to report a “shooting in progress” near 2 Oriole Crescent.
No one was injured, but several vehicles and a housing unit were struck by gunfire.
Officials have confirmed that this was a drive-by shooting.
Police say early information suggests that the “shots were being fired into the air from the sunroof of a moving vehicle.”
By the time the department arrived, the suspects were gone.
Their vehicle was last seen heading north on Oriole Crescent, leaving behind nothing other than spent shell casings, shattered car windows and holes in the homes of a nearby residence.
Currently, no suspect description or vehicle is available, but investigators believe more than one person was involved.
Insp. Ben Thibodeau says police are very concerned.
“At the end of the day, this fight cannot be won just by the police. We need members of the public to assist with this,” he said. “Often, people that are involved with shootings, whether they’re shooters or victims, they’re uncooperative with police, making the investigation significantly more difficult.”
“We need the community to assist us. We need everybody to take back their neighbourhood and assist the police in the investigation,” he added.
