Hamilton police investigate shooting near Sherman Avenue

A Hamilton resident has re-ignited a shooting investigation after finding several spent shell casings on their property.

At this time, there have been no reported injuries.

The initial investigation was launched on Friday night, after someone phoned police and said they heard what they thought were gunshots.

A subsequent investigation into the call found no evidence, victims or witnesses.

On Monday, an area resident returned to their residence near Sherman Avenue and Main Street East after being away for the weekend only to find several used bullet cartridges at their home.

Investigators were called out to the scene and were able to find additional evidence that confirmed a firearm had been set off in the area.

With the newly acquired information, police were able to construct a timeline.

Police now say that the shooting took place sometime shortly before midnight on Friday.

Anyone who might have witnessed this incident is asked to phone the department’s shooting response team by calling 905-546-4883.

Alternatively, if you were driving in the area around that time and have a dashcam, police ask that you review any footage you may possess.
