Hamilton police investigate elementary school pride flag burning

Hamilton police are looking for four suspects involved in the burning of a Pride flag at a Stoney Creek elementary school Monday night.

Officers say two suspects were seen around 10 p.m. setting fire to a Pride flag at a school near Barton Street and Fifty Road, before running away. Two other suspects were then seen running in the same direction after them.

Hamilton police’s arson unit is working with the hate crime unit for the investigation and is asking the public for assistance in identifying any of the four suspects, each to be between 15 to 19 years old in age.

The first suspect is described to be between five-foot-seven and five-foot-11 tall and wearing a black T-shirt, orange shorts and black shoes, with medium length dark and puffy hair.

The second suspect is described to be between five-foot-eight and six-feet tall, wearing a white T-shirt, blue or grey shorts and black shoes, with short brown hair.

The third suspect is described to be five-foot-seven and five-foot-11 tall, wearing a black T-shirt, black shorts and white shoes, with short black hair.

The fourth suspect is also described to be five-foot-seven and five-foot-11 tall, wearing a black T-shirt, black shorts and white shoes, with short dark hair.

Investigators are also asking any residents, business owners or witnesses with video evidence to check their footage for any suspicious activity between 9:30 p.m. and 10:15 p.m. on Monday.
