Hamilton Police Asking Peach Festival Witnesses to Come Forward

Division 20 Detectives are continuing to investigate the Winona Peach Festival incident that resulted in the seizure of a prohibited firearm and would like to speak to anyone who may have been in the area at the time.

Officers were on patrol around 9:20 p.m. when they observed a disturbance break out near the midway between two males. This took place at a time and location that was filled with hundreds of people, including children and families. As officers approached, bystanders alerted them that one suspect had a firearm.

A 23-year-old male was quickly arrested and was found to be in possession of a firearm, with a high-capacity magazine and ammunition.

Charged:

Devontae Trevon Sutherland, 23-years-old, from Toronto

  • Knowledge of Unauthorized Possession of Firearm
  • Possession of a Prohibited Firearm- Loaded
  • Possession of a Prohibited Weapon X3

He remains in custody at this time.

Investigators are particularly interested in speaking with individuals who were present at the time of the incident and assisted officers.
