Hamilton Police Arrest Suspect in Upper Wentworth Street Shooting

Hamilton Police Service Shooting Response Team have made an arrest in connection to the shooting on Sunday, September 1, 2024, near Upper Wentworth Street and Kingfisher Drive.

On the evening of Sunday, September 1, 2024, shortly before 6:00 p.m., a shooting occurred in the area, prompting an immediate investigation. On Wednesday, September 4, 2024, members of the Emergency Response Unit located the suspect at a downtown location. The suspect was arrested without incident.

The individual arrested is a youth and cannot be named under the Youth Criminal Justice Act. They remain in custody pending a bail hearing and are facing multiple charges, including:

  1. Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm
  2. Possession of a Prohibited Loaded Firearm
  3. Discharge Firearm with Intent
  4. Assault with a Weapon
  5. Possession of a Firearm, Contrary to Order
  6. Breach Youth Probation Order

Hamilton Police would like to thank the public for their assistance in identifying and apprehending the suspect. Although an arrest has been made, the investigation remains ongoing. The Shooting Response Team is currently holding a residence in Hamilton as part of the continuing investigation and in anticipation of executing a search warrant.
