Hamilton Police Arrest Suspect in Series of ATM Break-Ins

Hamilton Police continued to investigate a notable increase in break-ins, and between late August and early September 2024, local gas stations and nearby municipalities were specifically targeted for Automated Tell Machine (ATM) thefts. A thorough and coordinated investigation by the Hamilton Police Break, Enter, Auto Theft & Robbery (BEAR) Unit, in partnership with Niagara Regional Police, Halton Regional Police, Brantford Police Service, and the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), has resulted in a significant breakthrough in the investigation. 

On Friday, September 6, 2024, 23-year-old Justin Hicks of Welland was arrested in Hamilton and charged with multiple offenses, including:

  • Six Counts of Break and Enter – Commit
  • Break and Enter – Intent
  • Break and Enter – Intent (attempt)
  • Eight Counts Disguise with Intent 
  • Eight Counts Possession of Burglary Tools
  • Possession Over $5,000 – Motor Vehicle
  • Nine Counts of Failing to Comply with Probation

During the investigation, three search warrants were executed, leading to the recovery of numerous stolen items from local businesses. Investigators also located five stolen vehicles, including three pickup trucks and two high-end automobiles.

The Hamilton Police Service continues to collaborate with neighbouring police agencies, and further charges are anticipated.
