The family of a former Flamborough teacher who was killed by a hit and run driver more than two years ago is still searching for answers.
It’ll be three years in September that Wayne Miller was killed, and his brother Jim still misses him.
“Big time, everyday, because we were avid walkers and hikers, so everyday,” said Jim.
Wayne was retired from teaching at Flamborough Centre Elementary and was walking on the shoulder of Centre Road near Joe Sams Leisure Park at around 6 p.m. on Sept. 17, 2021.
“Wayne walked everyday and every evening, he was over here watching ball games, he was a teacher. So he was familiar with all the kids,” said Jim. ”
He watched the game and was walking down there facing traffic, and that’s when he was hit.”
Despite a $20,000 reward – put up by one of his former students – the case is cold.
“The last I heard from the police would have been last spring and they told me the investigation was complete,” said Jim. “They had a little bit of evidence they didn’t want to talk about. They said the case is open, and will always be open.”
Jim Miller is certain there is someone out there who knows who hit and killed his brother that night. He just wants them to do the right thing, and come forward.
“That’s the part that I’d like to say to whoever did it, maybe it was an accident when it happened,” said Jim.
“But clearly the fact that you left, backed up, went around my brother, ran over his legs and took off, that makes you guilty of manslaughter at least.”
The reward is still available. Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to call police.
