Court hears of DNA evidence in Hamilton stabbing murder trial

The criminal trial against 26-year-old Jheidohn Serieaux continued in Hamilton today, where members of the court heard testimony from a forensic pathologist who examined 31-year-old Christopher Sim’s body.

The doctor determined Sim’s cause of death was a stab wound to the heart.

She testified that his body sustained sharp injuries to the eye, neck, and torso, with the fatal stab being to his heart.

The court also heard about DNA collected at the scene, which included a surgical mask and fingernail clippings.

A forensic scientist testified that the DNA analysis done on the items could not rule out Serieaux.

Serieaux is defending himself in the judge-only trial, after being charged with first-degree murder in connection with the 2021 death of Sim outside a Hamilton shelter.
