Barricaded person on Hamilton Mountain causes heavy police presence

Police are asking residents to avoid a neighbourhood on Hamilton Mountain as they respond to an incident involving a barricaded person Tuesday afternoon.

Officers say a suspect has barricaded themselves inside of a residence in the area of Upper Gage Avenue and Mohawk Road East.

The situation is contained to the residence at this time, police say.

East 42nd Street is closed between Mohawk Road East and 10th Avenue for the investigation.

“Please plan ahead and use alternate routes as we work to safely resolve the situation,” Hamilton police said in a post on X shortly before noon.

This is a developing news story. More to come.
