Arrest Made in Queen Street Homicide

Hamilton Police have arrested a suspect following a fatal incident on Saturday, August 3, 2024.

On Saturday, August 3, 2024, at approximately 9:30 p.m., Hamilton Paramedics responded to a medical call at 36 Queen Street South, where they discovered 46-year-old David Fugler unconscious in his room. Fugler was transported to the hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries early the next morning.

An autopsy conducted on Monday, August 5, 2024, led police to determine that Fugler’s death was a homicide.

On Tuesday, August 6, 2024, police arrested Hemraj Lakhan, Fugler’s 40-year-old roommate, on charges of second-degree murder. Lakhan is being held for bail and is scheduled to appear in court today.

David Fugler’s family has been informed of the ongoing investigation and has requested privacy during this difficult time.

Police have confirmed that no firearms were involved. However, mental health is believed to have played a role in the incident. Hemraj Lakhan was previously known to the police.

Police are not seeking any additional suspects in connection with this investigation.
