AGCO suspends liquor license of Club 33 in Hamilton

Club 33 in Hamilton has had its liquor license suspended by the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario (AGCO).

The Crown agency says the decision follows a shooting last week in an adjacent parking lot that left three people in their 20s injured, citing concerns over public interest and safety.

The AGCO added that its decision to suspend Club 33’s liquor license comes as part of a “review regarding the establishment’s potential connection to this incident” and that it is seeking to determine if the club violated the province’s Liquor Licence and Control Act.

“The licence holder refused to speak to or cooperate with AGCO Inspectors and has failed to comply with a demand for information related to this violent incident,” the AGCO said.

Earlier this year, Hamilton police were called to the bar, where they located a man inside who was suffering from a gunshot wound.

The AGCO said in a statement Saturday that this establishment has a repeated history of alleged violent incidents and infractions of Ontario’s liquor laws and, as a result, has been the subject of multiple, ongoing AGCO inspections and compliance reviews.

In a message to CHCH News, a spokesperson from the establishment denied the allegations and said that “this is going to come down to a lawsuit.”
