2 car thieves arrested in Hamilton after crashing vehicle into traffic light

Two car thieves were arrested on Hamilton’s east mountain after crashing a vehicle and attempting to flee the scene.

Authorities say that just before 7:30 Sunday morning, a vehicle hit a traffic light at Upper Ottawa and Rymal Road.

Two men were witnessed running away from the crash but were quickly tracked down and arrested by the responding officers.

One of the men taken into custody was wanted from a break-and-enter that took place earlier this year in which a car was stolen.

Police say that Barry White is facing several charges for stealing vehicles and failing to comply with a court order.

The other man, Di yar Abdulrafar Majid also had an outstanding warrant for possession of a stolen vehicle and was charged.

Both of them were given a bail trial on Sunday. White was kept in custody and Majid was released with a future court date.

Police say the crash that occurred earlier that morning severed a streetlight.

“City officials responded to make repairs. Police are still investigating this collision,” reads a release from the department.
