HAMILTON, ON – The City of Hamilton is honoured to receive the prestigious 2023-2024 ‘Step Up for the Community’ award from the United Way Halton & Hamilton. The award recognizes the City’s commitment to making a positive impact in the community through fundraising, volunteering and supporting United Way initiatives.
During the 2023-2024 campaign year, City of Hamilton staff helped raise over $160,000 through various campaigns and a community match program for the United Way of Halton & Hamilton.
“For over 50 years, employees across all City of Hamilton departments have dedicated their time and contributed generously in support of our community. With the immense challenges many Hamiltonians are facing, by collaborating with an incredible charity partner like the United Way, funds raised have provided much-needed services to over 94-thousand people in the City of Hamilton just this past year,” said Mayor Andrea Horwath. “Thank you for your overwhelming generosity – I am proud to share that this year’s fundraising efforts exceeded the amount raised last year. That’s an extraordinary gift that’s invested into our community. I am incredibly thankful for our collective efforts to help make a difference in the lives of our most vulnerable community members.”
The funds raised will be directly reinvested into the community to support:
- Access to healthy food for families having trouble affording groceries and daily necessities;
- Afternoon programs for local children and youth to help them succeed at school; and
- Services designed to help reduce isolation among older adults through social activities and phone calls.
“Being recognized for the commitment of City of Hamilton staff to stand up and help our community is truly an honour,” says Marnie Cluckie, City Manager, City of Hamilton. “I am extremely proud of the effort that went into raising this significant amount for the United Way, which will contribute to a better Hamilton for all.”
The City of Hamilton has supported the United Way for 50+ years as the charity of choice, supporting agencies, programs and residents across the community. More information on the United Way Halton & Hamilton can be found at www.uwhh.ca.
