Cannon Street and York Boulevard lane restrictions begin July 8

HAMILTON, ON – To improve road safety for pedestrians, cyclists and motorists, the City of Hamilton will begin construction on York Boulevard (between Dundurn Street North and Caroline Street) and Cannon Street West (between Queen Street North and James Street North) starting July 8, 2024. Traffic will be reduced to one lane in each direction, resulting in traffic delays and bike lane detours.

The scope of the project includes urban rehabilitation, active transportation (bike lane) upgrades, intersection improvements, and watermain installation. Improvements will feature accessible sidewalks, updated asphalt bike paths and raised bus landings. The project will be completed over two years, with the 2024 season running from July to December, and resuming in April 2025 until August 2025.

Businesses in the area will remain open during the project. Motorists and transit customers should anticipate delays and allow extra travel time. During the 2024 season, some stops on HSR westbound routes travelling in the area will be affected. Transit customers are encouraged to visit Hamilton.ca/hsrdetours for more information about local transit service impacts.

This construction work will not impact Emergency Services and their accessibility to residents.

The City of Hamilton thanks motorists, cyclists and pedestrians for their patience as we complete these important infrastructure repairs.
