The YWCA is hosting its 15th annual Walk a Mile in Their Shoes event in downtown Hamilton today.
The idea stems from the age-old saying, “you can’t understand what someone’s going through unless you walk a mile in their shoes,” and it aims to get people out doing just that.
By donning women’s high heels and walking a mile, the event aims to raise awareness of gender-based violence against women and show support for those who have experienced it themselves.
The event starts outside city hall at 11 a.m. and runs until 1 p.m.
In 2023, the event drew more than 400 walkers and raised over $158,000.
This year, more than 420 walkers registered to participate in the event.
