Construction of Brantford’s largest new community park in a century is set to begin this month with completion expected in August of next year.
The new Arrowdale Community Park will have dedicated parking and will feature 1,700 meters of nature and cycling trails, picnic and shade structures and a park building with two universal washrooms.
Over 150 additional trees and shrubs will be planted to enhance the area.
Other amenities will include a large splash pad, multi-use court, an all-wheels skatepark and public art installations.
In partnership with field monitors from Six Nations of the Grand River and Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation, the City completed four stages of an archaeological assessment that informed recent updates to the park’s design.
As part of the second-phase of construction park plans will also include additional Indigenous elements in partnership with the local Indigenous Nations.
The City of Brantford said that community parks are larger than neighbourhood parks and are equipped with high-quality amenities designed to service multiple neighbourhoods.
“With a wide variety of year-round amenities and activities, the park will offer something for everyone, from peaceful green spaces to recreational facilities that bring the community together,” it stated in a press release.
