Fire crews in Welland battled a large blaze at a home on Deere Street last night.
Emergency officials say they were dispatched to a home after receiving reports of a large backyard fire. Once on scene, it was determined to have been a structure fire that spread to a neighbouring home.
Additional resources were called in once the extent of the fire was discovered, and fire crews fought to tame the flames from both inside and outside the homes.
No one was found to be inside either home.
One firefighter on scene was sent to the hospital to be treated for smoke inhalation, but has since been released.
Officials say while the cause of the fire is still being investigated, it is not considered to be suspicious at this time.
