Waterloo police seek man from Paris after an attempted kidnapping

Waterloo Regional Police are looking for a 50-year-old man from Paris, Ont. in connection to an attempted kidnapping Tuesday morning in Wellesley Township.

Officers say that a man armed with a knife went to a property near Hessen Strasse and Greenwood Road at around 11:30 a.m. and tried to force a woman into a vehicle.

Detectives say that the man assaulted the woman and brandished the knife at her. Witnesses told police that people nearby had intervened in the attack and prevented the woman from getting hurt.

Officers say the the man fled the area in a vehicle before they arrived before escaping on foot into a wooded area.

Investigators have identified the man as 50-year-old David Sherk from Paris.

The department considers Sherk armed and dangerous and warns residents to call police immediately if seen.
