Two men are facing charges after they were caught stealing some steel cable from a commercial property in Welland.
Police say the men used a ladder to climb over a fence and gain access to the property near Centre Street and Harold Avenue around 3:15 a.m. Monday.
Once they were beyond the fence, they climbed onto the roof of an outbuilding, where they cut out around 70 feet of insulated steel cable.
According to their report, officers were called out to a robbery in progress around 5 a.m. and were able to locate the two men and place them under arrest.
The two men were held in custody and are facing charges of theft under $5,000 and failure to comply with a probation order.
Charged are a 44-year-old Sean Steele of no fixed address and a 50-year-old Michael Huggins of Wainfleet.
The two are expected to undergo a bail hearing on Tuesday.
