Two fatalities in Lowville car crash, dog also dies

A Hamilton man and woman and a dog have died following an early morning single vehicular crash on Guelph Line in the community of Lowville.

Guelph Road between Britannia Road and Number 8 Sideroad is currently closed due to the accident as a police investigation remains ongoing.

The crash occurred around 1 a.m. at the intersection of Guelph Line and Lowville Park Road when the driver of the silver Mitsubishi sedan failed to negotiate a left turn in the road, slide off the roadway and struck a retaining wall near the entrance of Lowville Park and Lowville Bistro. Speed is thought to have been a contributing factor.

The driver and passenger were extricated from the car by Burlington firefighters. The 41-year-old female passenger and a small dog were pronounced dead at the scene.

The male passenger, age 47, was transported by Halton paramedics to Milton District Hospital with serious injuries where he was pronounced dead.

The corner of the crash is known to be a dangerous one with people often speeding in the area. Large rocks had been placed in front of the restaurant and park entrance years ago due to ongoing safety concerns and car accidents.

Halton Police are currently investigating the incident and urge anyone with information to contact the Collision Reconstruction Unit at 905-825-4747 ext. 5065.
