Three killed in head-on collision

The Ontario Provincial Police are investigating a fatal crash in Welland that killed three people last night.

According to the OPP they, along with Welland Fire Department, Niagara EMS and Ornge responded to a head-on collision involving a pickup truck on Highway 58 between Kleiner Street and Forks Road East.

It was determined that a pickup truck collided head-on with a Niagara transit bus and as a result, the pickup truck rolled over and burst into flames.

The driver of the pickup and two passengers were pronounced deceased on scene, say police. The bus driver was air-lifted to hospital with serious life-threatening injuries. Two passengers were also on the bus at the time of the crash. One was taken to hospital to be treated for serious injuries, while the second passenger was released at the scene.

Police continue to investigate and Highway 58 is currently closed between Kleiner Street and Forks Road East. It’s anticipated that the roadway will be closed for a number of hours while the investigation continues.
