Summer camp kicks off for kids in Hamilton

With the long weekend now over, many Hamilton kids are off to start a new adventure at one of the many summer camps in the region.

For the next few months, they’ll travel across the Golden Horseshoe to spend the day outdoors with friends, enjoying the summer.

Victoria Kerekesch, the district manager of recreation for the City of Hamilton, says this year’s registration filled up fast.

“We were full from the moment we opened,” she said, adding that they hired over 70 staff members to handle this year’s workload.

She says that this year, junior campers are in for a treat, with trips to places like Wild Water Workers and Crawford Lake planned for every other week.

From the moment the children arrive, they’re kept busy.

“We start right at 8 a.m. with a health hustle. We’re dancing the moment we get in there. Outdoor games, crafts and typically in the afternoon, we do swimming,” Kerekesch said.

If you want to get your children involved, there is still time to sign up and register.

The City of Hamilton is still accepting youth between the ages of 12 to 15 and is also accepting for its Supie program. This program allows parents to drop their children off at local parks with staff supervision — all for free, providing a safe and convenient option for parents.
