The stalled trial for the murder of 31-year-old Christopher Sim resumed today, after the accused killer finally appeared in court for his defence.
Twenty-six-year-old Jheidon Serieaux is facing a first-degree murder charge in connection with the 2021 stabbing of Sim outside a Hamilton shelter.
Surveillance video of the incident was shown in court, showing a suspect running up to the victim and appearing to punch him.
Three police officers working the scene took the stand today, explaining what the incident looked like upon arriving.
A patrol officer on duty the day of the attack testified to seeing the victim “sitting in a large pool of blood.”
Serieaux has chosen to defend himself in the criminal trial, though he has been appointed legal help.
Today’s court session comes after being put on hold on Monday, when the accused refused to leave his cell.
