St. Catharines man arrested in child sexual abuse material case

Niagara police say they have arrested a 45-year-old man from St. Catharines in connection with a child sexual abuse material investigation.

Back in May, officials opened a case into the uploading of explicit material including children to Facebook Messenger.

On June 19, officers carried out a search warrant at a private residence in St. Catharines, where they seized a number of electronic devices.

Evidence discovered using forensic examination of these devices resulted in police arresting Jason John George Haughie on Wednesday.

Haughie is now facing numerous charges relating to this investigation, including possession of and accessing child pornography.

“Online platforms that allow like-minded users to create, share and store child sexual abuse material (CSAM) are prevalent on the internet,” Niagara police said in a statement.

“Offenders who try to hide their illegal CSAM collections behind an anonymous account in the ‘cloud’ can be identified and will be held accountable for their actions.”
