Several properties vandalized with hateful language in Welland

Niagara police are investigating graphic vandalism that happened early Saturday morning in a Welland neighborhood.

On Sunday, most of the spray paint was removed, and officers canvassed the area looking for surveillance footage, while residents worked together to clean up.

Several properties including street signs, cars, and even homes were vandalized with hateful and vulgar language.

Local resident Kendra Davis from TNT Cleaning offered to help with the cleanup. She stated, “I wanted to come over and offer this poor resident a free service to clean and try to remove the profanity that has been spray-painted over her house. She’s 80 years old, and I just wanted to help. Nobody deserves this; it’s awful.”

The home is located near Braley and Sauer Avenue in Welland and was targeted by unknown suspects.

The homeowner, who didn’t want to go on camera, mentioned that in her 25 years living here, she had never seen anything like this before.

The vandals wrote “old fart” among other more disturbing racial slurs on her door.

“I just want to remind her that even though this is a horrible thing that happened there are still good people out here that are willing to lend a hand in bad situations,” said Davis.

Niagara police responded to the Welland neighborhood just before 8 a.m. yesterday for the property damage complaints.

They determined that between 1 and 2 a.m., the suspects spray-painted multiple cars, street signs, and homes with genitalia and racist slurs.

Police say this investigation is ongoing, and anyone with surveillance footage or information regarding this incident is asked to call police.
