A province-wide march to end homelessness took place in cities across Ontario on Saturday, including right here in Hamilton.
Organizer Angela Vos spent a month living in the homeless encampment in front of city hall.
Vos says there are more than 2,000 homeless people in Hamilton and feels at least 1,900 of them have underlying health issues which lead to them living on the street.
Vos says people living on disability can’t afford rent and are living in poverty.
“Today we are walking to end homelessness, so we are walking with multiple cities, Kingston, Barrie, and Timmins have joined us. We are just trying to spread the love and tell people that our homeless people in our neighborhood that we love them and that we care about them,” says Vos.
Vos is hoping marches like this will encourage municipalities to properly address the issues with homelessness in their communities.
