Pride kicked off earlier this week with flag-raising ceremonies in all 12 municipalities that make up the Niagara region. After a week of events, Pride in the Park is the grand finale.
Trinity United Church in Beamsville was on hand. They say it’s important to show a little love.
Minister Rev. Jane Capstick said, “We know that Christianity has a really bad reputation around the LGBTQ community, and that’s not who we are.”
But Pride Niagara did receive some online threats, so just as a precaution, the city of St. Catharine’s did put up the fence around the park for safety reasons.
Noel Leboeuf said, “It’s a little disheartening to see all the fencing, but it’s awesome to see the city is stepping forward to keep everyone safe.”
The temporary fencing was provided by the city at a cost of $15,000.
Pride Niagara officially ends tomorrow morning with high tea in Font Hill.
