Nationally, pride events are celebrated in June. But here in Hamilton, August is the time to keep the party going. Today, Pride Hamilton is pulling out all the stops to make it a fun and inclusive atmosphere.
The Director of Events, Kyle Huges, says this space is more than a celebration. It’s a safe space to be who you truly are.
Huges said, “I grew up in this city, and I knew for many years to try and find myself, I had to go to other cities. And part of my mission is to put on something that is respectable to this community.”
The community showed up in all their pride enthusiasm, including the four-legged variety.
Attendee Ryan McComb showed up today to have fun and get some information from one of the many vendors. McComb said he was once in a dark place finding his true self. He said if there were events like this he wouldn’t have felt that way.
McComb said, “There’s a lot of misinformation, and there’s a need for a lot of education in society, and I feel that’s what this type of event brings”.
Danielle De Graauw was at Pier 4 and got to chat with Bonnie Barlow of Pride Hamilton and a drag performer Silky Nutmeg Ganache.
