Port Colborne mayor says changes coming to Sherkston Shores operations following chaotic weekend

The Mayor of Port Colborne says the city is just one of a few regional authorities that have asked Sherkston Shores to modify how it handles its operations.

This comes following a crime wave at the popular resort over the Canada Day long weekend after nearly 30,000 people gathered in the region.

Mayor Bill Steele mentioned some of the new preventive measures, including addressing a shortage of cameras, a lack of fencing, and possibly barring short-term rentals from taking place over the holiday weekend.

“We’re going to have some asks and quite frankly, those asks will be hopefully implemented right away,” Steele said. “We’re not going to tolerate waiting a month for them to come back to us.”

Despite repeated attempts by CHCH News to reach out to Sherkston Shores for comment, there has been no response from them on the matter.

On Friday, Niagara police said one 17-year-old man had been arrested in connection to the incident, and several others were ejected from the park for trespassing during the weekend.
