Port Colborne fatal hit-and-run driver surrenders to Niagara police

A male suspect driver of a vehicle involved in a fatal hit-and-run in Port Colborne over the weekend surrendered to Niagara police Sunday evening.

Tyler James MacDonald, 37, of Fort Erie was arrested and charged with “failing to stop after accident — resulting in death”.

The victim of the hit-and-run was a fifty-one-year-old Port Colborne man who left his home late Saturday evening for a walk. He was found early Sunday morning by family members in a ditch on Silver Bay Road.

Detectives located and seized a black Jeep Commander with front driver’s side damage from a residence in Fort Erie.

MacDonald was held in custody for a video bail hearing in St. Catharines on Monday.
