Police work to determine if explosion outside Grimsby school was intentional

A loud explosion outside a school in Grimsby on Tuesday continues to be investigated, as police remain unsure whether it was accidental or not.

Niagara police responded to reports of an explosion around 1:30 p.m. near Central French Immersion Public School near Boulton Avenue.

Officials confirmed to CHCH News a female staff member at the school had sustained minor injuries as a result of the explosion.

Students were moved to a nearby location for the school’s dismissal, and surrounding businesses were also evacuated.

Residents were asked to shelter in place.

Niagara police searched the school yard on Wednesday looking for evidence, and are asking the public to come forward with any surveillance footage they might have.

Despite the ongoing investigation and police presence, students are back in class.
