Part of QEW in Niagara closed after dump truck driver leaves box up, hits overhead sign

For the second time this week, a dump truck with its box up has crashed into something on the QEW.

This time, in Niagara, where the overhead exit sign for Glendale Avenue was destroyed after a forgetful driver ploughed the box of their commercial vehicle through it, leaving the metal structure badly mangled.

As a result, the northbound QEW near Mountain Road in Niagara Falls will be closed for three hours, police say.

The OPP’s highway safety division took to social media around 12:30 p.m. Friday to share the news.

They add that the driver returned to the scene and is facing charges.

No one was injured.

This is the second time a commercial vehicle has forgotten to lower its box up this week, resulting in a crash.
