Ontario’s minimum wage is increasing by 3.9 per cent Tuesday

The province is increasing the minimum wage from $16.55 to $17.20 per hour, and $15.60 to $16.20 per hour for students under 18 years old.

The increase is calculated based on the Ontario Consumer price Index as a method to combat increased inflation rates.

Ontario’s wage increase is also the second largest in Canada and will also include liqour servers that have not seen an increase since 2021.

The Employment Standards Act reads that tips and gratuities are not considered wages and are not counted when calculating new minimum wage pay.

People who work from home will see their minimum wage increase to $18.90 per hour.
