The summer is looking a whole lot brighter for two Hamiltonians after winning a big in the lottery.
LOTTO 6/49 second prize worth $255,069.20 in the April 6 draw.
Occasional lottery players Richard Anderson and Deborah Johnson bought the ticket at the Busy Bee Foodmart on Delawana Drive in Hamilton when they noticed the big jackpot win.
“Suddenly, the terminal froze,” says Richard, “and the clerk said I needed to wait for a phone call … after the call from OLG, I realized we had won more than $250,000!”
His wife Deborah says it was quite the moment, as she excitedly rushed into the store with her car still running.
When asked what their plans are with the funds, the couple says they want to invest the money, and also treat their grandchildren to a vacation. “We’ll take some time before we make any big decisions, but we’ll have fun,” concluded Richard.
This comes as another Hamilton resident, Roberto Yturzaeta, won $50,000 from his DAILY KENO 8 Pick on April 26.
He discovered he had picked the winning numbers while taking a break at work, after nearly twenty years of being a regular lottery player with OLG.
He says he plans to pay some bills and take a vacation to visit his family in the Philippines.
OLG says the odds of a person hitting all six numbers on their 6/49 jackpot at one in roughly 14 million.
The odds of hitting a KENO win like Yturzaeta are a bit more reasonable, at one in 74,941.
