Niagara police charge pair with multiple fraud charges

Police have charged a man and a woman with multiple fraud charges after buying a $90,000 truck in St. Catharines with fraudulent financing.

Officers say they began an investigation in August after becoming suspicious of a purchase made by 61-year-old Louise Lemay from Toronto and 34-year-old Abdifatah Sahal from Etobicoke.

Detectives arrested the two last Friday while they were attempting to get the truck from an auto dealership.

Both Lemay and Sahal were charged with offences involved with fraud over $5,000 and theft of a motor vehicle.

As the result of a search warrant and further investigation on Wednesday, police charged Sahal with additional charges involving possessing identity documents and identity theft.

Kemay and Sahal have been released from custody pending future court appearances.
