Niagara police charge 58-year-old man with gun-related offences

A 58-year-old man is facing charges after police seized a firearm at a home in Niagara Falls.

Niagara police were called to a home near Champlain Drive and Parliament Avenue around 1 p.m. on June 26 over concerns for public safety.

Detectives were warned of weapons in the home ahead of the search, and involved members of the K9 unit and the emergency task unit.

Following the execution of a search warrant, officers say they found a .22 caliber handgun with a loaded magazine and no safety trigger lock on top of a dresser.

Police also discovered another loaded .22 caliber magazine near the front entrance of the home, with more ammunition found “readily available within the home.”

Michael Paulo of Niagara Falls has been charged with careless storage of a firearm and unauthorized possession of a prohibited weapon.

Paulo was held in custody pending a bail hearing that was scheduled for June 27 in the St. Catharines courthouse.
