Niagara police arrest 59-year-old man for internet luring offence

Police arrested a 59-year-old man from Welland Saturday after he allegedly scheduled to meet with a 14-year-old girl for sex.

Detectives say they began a proactive investigation in August into communities in the Niagara region that use the internet to meet with children for sexual purposes.

Officers arrested Robert Darryl Davis, a 59-year-old from Welland, who they say arranged to meet with who he believed to be a girl at a pre-arranged location through text messages.

Investigators say they were waiting for Davis’s arrival at the meeting place before arresting him.

Davis was held in custody and was scheduled to appear for a bail hearing at a St. Catharines courthouse on Sunday.

Police say they have reason to believe that Davis was using the username “Jim”, “Jimmy Wilson” or “Mike Wilson” to contact other children on the internet.

Anyone with information is asked to contact police.
