Guangzhou, China, was dethroned of a Guinness World Record on Monday.
Niagara Falls officially set the record for the “largest gathering of people dressed as the sun,” just hours ahead of the total solar eclipse.
The worldly feat was set shortly before noon with 309 people donning red plastic ponchos and bright yellow sun costumes.
The previous record was set by China Life Insurance Company Limited in 2020, when 287 participants came together in the Chinese city of Guangzhou, donning red and yellow sun costumes adorned with smiley faces.
At one point, the crowd of 309 people gathered aboard one of Niagara Falls’ cruise ships and toured the bottom of the falls.
Shortly after the boat trip, an official Guinness World Records adjudicator joined Mayor Jim Diodati and posed with the official record certificate.
