Niagara Falls man charged after police seize scoped hunting rifle

Niagara regional police have arrested and charged a man from Niagara Falls Tuesday morning after finding an unauthorized firearm in his home.

Officers responded to an incident that happened at around 8 a.m. at a house in the area of Stanley Avenue and North Street in Niagara falls.

Police learned that a man and a woman were allegedly in a physical altercation that had escalated.

Officers say the man pinned the woman against a wall, threw her phone and pushed her to the ground.

Emergency crews that attended the scene say they treated the woman for minor physical injuries.

Investigators say they arrived and contained the area after they were made to believe the man had weapons in his room.

The man then left the home and was arrested by police without incident.

Detectives then obtained and executed a search warrant at the home and recovered a scoped 308 hunting rifle.

Police have charged 23-year-old Desmond Macmorine from Niagara Falls with careless storage of a firearm, having unauthorized possession of the firearm and for failing to comply with undertaking.

Macmorine was held in custody pending a bail hearing at a St. Catharines courthouse on Wednesday.
