The Canadian Warplane Heritage Museum’s newest exhibit brings the past into the future.
Titled “Making Freedom Fly,” the collection adds three new digital displays to the museum, which project a life-sized avatar onto a screen that visitors can interact with.
Attendees will be able to walk up to one of the three new life-sized avatars and say “Hello” to engage in a conversation with them and learn about their personal history in the air force, as told by a younger, digitized version of themselves.
The avatar will then provide a brief introduction to their story before giving visitors several dialogue options for them to choose from.
Stacey Spiegel, one of the exhibit’s developers, says years of work went into creating the new showcase. “We took archival tapes from these individuals … re-aged them back to their 20s, and overlayed those voice prints on top of the actors.”
“What you experience when you talk to them is they’re responding in real-time to questions you ask,” he added.
The exhibit includes three other new pieces, including an immersive dome, a high-definition cinema, and an augmented reality tour that’s still in the works.
Admission to the new exhibit is included in the regular admission rate ($11 to $16).
