Motorcyclist in life-threatening condition following Niagara crash

A motorcyclist had to be airlifted from an area hospital to an out-of-town trauma centre after sustaining life-threatening injuries in what police are calling a “serious motor vehicle collision” in Niagara Falls over the weekend.

Officers say they were called out to Lundy’s Lane and Beechwood Road around 3:45 p.m. Sunday.

When they arrived, they found a 28-year-old man who had been critically injured from a collision involving a Toyota Corolla.

The man was transported to a local hospital before eventually being airlifted to an out-of-town trauma centre in life-threatening condition.

The other driver, a 31-year-old woman, had to be extracted by fire crews from the Toyota. Police say she was taken to hospital and treated for minor injuries. Additionally, her 11-year-old passenger was treated by paramedics on scene for minor injuries.

Police say that the crash knocked down some hydro lines, which required repair.

The department’s reconstruction unit has been assigned to the case.

It remains unclear what led to this crash, but no criminal charges have been laid at this time.

Authorities estimate that the motorcycle, a green Kawasaki Ninja ZX-6R, sustained around $13,000 in damages, and the Toyota sustained $10,000 in damages.
