Mohawk’s aviation program gets rare donation from pilot legend

Christmas came early for the aviation students at Mohawk College in Hamilton.

H. Bruce MacRitchie, a legend in the industry, has donated a 1968 Cessna 241 plane for students to work on.

MacRitchie has trained pilots, technicians, and has been with the Niagara Central Dorothy Rungeling Airport for 30 years.

At the age of 90, his passion for planes remains strong.

“I restored airplanes that were junk after the war,” MacRitchie said. “And I thought this airplane should not just be cut up for pieces.”

His donation, along with his many stories and insights, are appreciated by everyone involved in the aviation program at Mohawk.

“We’re very grateful to Bruce and his family for the donation they’ve made here today,” Jeff McIsaac, Dean of Engineering Technology and Aviation at Mohawk, said.

“Bruce is an icon of the Canadian Aviation space, and so partnering with Bruce and having him acknowledge the importance of our program to Canadian Aviation means a lot to us.”
