Massive house fire in Port Colborne displaces 7 people

A massive house fire in Port Colborne has displaced seven people.

Fire officials say crews were called out to an early morning structure fire on Friday after a passing Niagara EMS unit spotted flames coming from a house on Forkes Road, just west from Highway 140.

First responders arrived on the scene shortly after 4:30 a.m., reporting visible smoke and heavy flame.

Incident Command requested additional tankers from Fort Erie, Wainfleet and Welland at that time.

Port Colborne’s Fire Chief, Morgan Alcock, says the home’s seven occupants were able to escape thanks to a functioning fire alarm.

The home suffered extensive damage, including a complete roof collapse. An excavator has been called in to pull the structure apart.

Crews will likely remain on scene for the remainder of the day.

Alcock says it is too early to provide an estimate on damages.
