Man tasered, arrested in St. Catharines armed person call

Niagara police tasered and arrested a St. Catharines man following an armed person call in downtown St. Catharines yesterday.

Alain Joseph Cloutier, 57, was arrested with assault with a weapon.

Police were called to a business at St. Paul Street and James Street after an employee saw a man in front of the business holding a knife.

The suspect was located on foot on James Street and was tasered when he resisted arrest and struggled with authorities.

The incident was reportedly linked to a landlord-tenant conflict. The accused was held in custody for a St. Catharines courthouse video bail hearing on August 27.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the police at 905-688-4111, option 3, extension 1004233.
